Ready for some real cool tools to teach digital citizenship? In this double play session, try your hands on Common Sense Media’s new interactive eBooks for iPads and Digital Passport Mobile. Now in eBook format for iPad, the K-12 Digital Literacy and Citizenship Curriculum offers books for both teachers and students. The eBook Teacher Edition covers curriculum lessons, class activities, videos, and embedded professional development such as background on the curriculum topics, quizzes and reflections, and videos of lessons in action. The accompanying eBook Student Workbooks include interactive, drag and drop lesson activities, videos, lesson and unit-level assessments, and the ability for students to submit work from the book to the teacher. The eBooks are available by grade level K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

The second resource, Digital Passport.org, is an interactive learning game for grades 3-5 that teaches and tests the basics of digital safety, etiquette, and citizenship. Students learn foundational skills from online games and videos, while deepening their learning through collaborative offline activities. Topics include: multitasking and cell phones, privacy and sharing, cyberbullying, effective online searching, and creative credit. Students collect badges along the way towards earning a Digital Passport certificate. Teachers are provided a robust dashboard including additional classroom activities, student reporting, and a training center. Digital Passport can be an entirely student-guided experience, or in conjunction with accompanying lessons and activities. The site is also available in a mobile app version for iOS and Android. Attendees will take a tour of Digital Passport and learn how they can implement it immediately in their blended elementary classroom. Digital Passport received a Bronze Medal in the 2012 International Serious Play Awards.
