EdTechTeacher iPad Summit- Boston 2013

Participants in this session will learn how to engage students in authentic at home learning using the ideas of the flipped classroom alongside exploratory and problem-based learning. Moving introduction to content outside the classroom frees up valuable class time for group-work, extension activities, and coaching – all of which push students to content mastery. When it comes to STEM subjects, however, the flipped classroom is a challenge. Students learn best through doing, and moving exploratory labs and investigations to “homework” is a delicate process. This session will explore how to leverage a variety of iPad applications, online programs, and content delivery systems in order to create digital at home exploratory and problem-based learning. By the end of this session, participants will learn how to modify a 5-E lesson plan to fit the flipped classroom teaching model, and will be exposed to a variety of ways to create online labs, investigations, and exploratory learning environments. While iPads will be used to create the digital learning environment, by the end of the session, participants will be able to deliver their online learning or through an iPad or Internet connected computer. Students do not need an iPad to benefit from the ideas of this session.
